2026 Winners have been announced!

With the number of women working across STEM based professions increasing in recent years (from 24% in 2016 to 28% in 2020) IPWEA, as a peak professional association representing the broad field of infrastructure and public works professionals, is in a prime position to support this continued rise in female participation.

The IPWEA Rita Excell Women in Asset Management scholarship aims to:

  • Support women building a career in STEM fields with a focus on infrastructure asset management;
  • Enable IPWEA to support and encourage increased numbers of women participating in the field of infrastructure asset management;
  • Enable IPWEA to communicate the value of infrastructure asset management to the broader community; and
  • Contribute to building the strength of infrastructure asset management practice.

This scholarship is aimed at ensuring women are encouraged to nominate for professional development in the field of infrastructure asset management. As an Asset Coordinator, I am passionate about strengthening the way our community’s assets are planned, managed, and sustained. After two years in this role, and with a Cert IV in Leadership and Management, I’m ready to deepen my technical knowledge and enhance my leadership capability. This scholarship would accelerate my development by giving me access to specialised training that supports smarter, future‑focused decision making and helps me guide my team with confidence. It would also enable me to continue advocating for women in asset management—building on my past industry involvement with IPWEA and LGEA. Receiving this scholarship is an honour and will be a meaningful step in my career, empowering me to deliver better outcomes for our organisation and community while contributing to a more diverse and supportive profession.
