The Climate Resilient Infrastructure Course is an interactive, content rich, self-paced online course designed to build practical capability in identifying and integrating climate resilience into infrastructure asset management and financial planning frameworks.

Based on the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Guideline, the course provides participants with a shared language, practical frameworks and real-world examples to support planning, funding, monitoring and adapting infrastructure assets to the increasing challenges of climate change.

Participants will undertake an Action Learning Project that builds throughout the course and results in a Business Case for the integration of climate resilient materials and assets within their organisational policies and processes. Participants who complete the course will receive the IPWEA Climate Resilient Infrastructure Digital Badge.

  • Understand the likely changes in the climate in Australia to 2100 and beyond.
  • Identify climate change impacts and resilience options for buildings, bridges, roads, footpaths, green infrastructure, water and waste water assets, storm water assets, coastal assets and the most commonly used infrastructure materials.

The course consists of guided reading, learning activities and take aways that you can work your way through at your own pace. You can complete this course in one sitting, or spread it out as your schedule permits. It is completely up to you. Importantly, you will have access for a period of 12 months, making this course a lasting resource that you can refer back to or revisit as you progress your asset management journey.

Module Details

Module 1: Setting the Scene

This module covers asset management, long-term financial planning and other long-term plans, to support informed decision-making and safeguard the long-term viability of organisations and our communities.

Module 2: AM Enablers

This module covers the people, roles and actions required to support asset management within the organisation and the required Governance practices which make it work.

Module 3: Consider the Options

This module covers concepts in sustainable service delivery, such as the nature of the service, its current quality level, the risks tied to its delivery, and the costs involved in its provision.

Module 4: Your role as an Elected Member

This module covers elected members' role in managing infrastructure assets, and their responsibilities which directly impact their communities.

By completing this course, elected members will gain a clear understanding of infrastructure asset management principles and their role in strategic decision-making. They will learn how to support sustainable service delivery through informed governance. Participants will be equipped to champion long-term financial and asset planning within their organisations.

 

CPD Points

Participants who complete the Infrastructure Asset Management Planning for Elected Members course will earn 10 CPD hours. These hours are calculated based on the course's structured learning activities, including four live webinars, readings, case studies, and reflection exercises over a four-week period .

Eligible for CPD by Engineers Australia (EA) in accordance with EA Guidelines.

Tamara is a passionate advocate for building asset management capability across local government and industry. With over two decades of senior executive experience, she has worked across growth, rural, and regional councils in Victoria and Queensland. Tamara brings deep knowledge in infrastructure and engineering services, having led teams in asset management planning, capital works delivery, maintenance, and disaster recovery. Tamara understands the real-world challenges councils face in managing assets effectively and sustainably and has extensive experience in leading asset transformation programs in both large and small councils. Through her work with IPWEA, she supports others in developing practical skills and strategic approaches to asset management. Her leadership and lived experiences have helped teams build confidence and deliver long-term value for their communities.

Participants may cancel their enrolment at any time. Cancellations received prior to the commencement of the course will not incur any penalty. Cancellations received after the course has commenced will be required to pay 100% of the course fee.

Enrolment suspension and transfer:

  • Applications to suspend and transfer enrolment to the next course must be received by the course administrator before the start of Module 1.
  • Applications for suspension and transfer received after commencement of Module 1 will incur a fee equal to 50% of the course registration fee to transfer to a future course.
  • Participants who have transferred enrolment to a Course must recommence on the next available course.
  • Participants who are granted an enrolment suspension and transfer will be provided access to all modules of the subsequent Course. Any of the work completed on the eLearning portal during the initial enrolment will not be transferred to the subsequent course.

Course fee payment:

Participants must ensure course fee payments are complete prior to the commencement of the course. In the event of late enrolments, IPWEA will accept an official Purchase Order as proof of pending payment. Participants who have not paid the course fee, do not receive feedback on their assignment submissions and cannot complete the course.

Extensions:

Extensions to complete work/assignments which are due will only be given in the following circumstances:

  • Illness or injury of the candidate or his/her immediate family where the candidate is one of the primary caregivers;
  • Death or incapacity of a family member or close relative;
  • Abnormal or unanticipated work load resulting from entity restructures or severe natural weather events such as earthquakes, storms, floods.

Assignment:

Assignments must be the participant’s own work. The use of AI to complete assignments can be detected. Participants using AI to complete assignments are not demonstrating that they understand the key concepts in the course and will be asked to resubmit.

Course Closure and Finalisation:

Participants will have access to the online course environment, IPWEA eLearning platform for a reasonable period following the conclusion of the course to facilitate assignment completion.

There are no specific pre-requisites for this course. It is designed to cater to professionals from various backgrounds who are interested in asset management. However, a basic understanding of asset management concepts or experience in an asset-intensive organization can be beneficial.

Completing the IAMG course can significantly enhance your career by:

  • Qualifying you for the Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA) certification under the World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM) Global Certification Scheme.

This is a 100% online program, which gives you the flexibility to adapt your training to your professional and personal needs. You will be guided throughout the program by a personal learning mentor who will help you with activities.

What You'll Study

Each of the four modules requires you to work through the online materials each week, comprising assessment activities and reading excerpts from the International Standards and IIMM publications.

 

QnA Session

You can also attend an (optional) 90-minute * online session held each Monday, where key concepts will be covered, and you’ll have the opportunity for Q&A with our IPWEA subject matter experts.

 

Assessments

After each of the four Modules, you will be asked to complete a short assessment task designed to consolidate your learning.

The Climate Resilient Infrastructure Guideline provides nationally relevant, collaboratively developed, industry best practice guidance on the integration of climate risk and resilience into asset and financial management planning.

The Guideline details a range of climate hazards including higher temperatures, heatwave, frost, hail, changes in rainfall, increased storm and cyclonic intensity flooding, coastal and riverine erosion, drought, sea level rise, ocean acidification, and bushfire weather.
