2015 IPWEA Award winners revealed at Rotorua #IPWEA2015

Delegates gathered to hear the winners revealed this morning on the second day of IPWEA’s conference in Rotorua.


IPWEA President Michael Kahler invited the winners on stage to receive their awards (gallery to follow). The IPWEA Awards presentations were followed by AECOM’s awards. PWPro would like to congratulate all the winners and runners up.

Keith H Wood Medal

Winner: Paul Di Iulio, CEO, Campbelltown City Council (SA)

Over the course of 23 years, Di Iulio has impressed with his work in both state and national Presidential roles with IPWEA. It was during his tenure that IPWEA merged with INGENIUM in New Zealand.

Public Works Leader of the Year Medal

Winner: Anne-Maree Burke, Manager Water Strategy, Kempsey Shire Council

Burke’s proficiency at working with the resources at hand has been a trademark of her 13 years with Kempsey Shire Council. In this time she has created jobs, enhanced local skills and provided direct community and environment benefits beyond her own shire.

Public Works Project of the Year Medal

Winner: Whangerei District Council, Lower Hatea River Crossing

Whangerei District Council Principal Jeff Devine and his team Keith Griffen (McDonnell Dowell Constructors) and project consultants Duncan Peters from Novare Design achieved all three of their objects for the Lower Hatea River Crossing: to provide the city with a critical road network link, to build an iconic bridge on the marine approach to the city and to contribute work worth at least $14m to local businesses.

Young IPWEA Emerging Leader Award

Winner: Dwayne Honor, Manager Design, Bundaberg Regional Council (link to profile)

Honor’s many accolades include Young Engineer of the Year 2013, winner of best paper at the New Zealand conference in 2014 and winner of the IPWEA Queensland Award for Innovation in 2014 for his work on the Burnett River Flood Gauge Mapping System. He is currently the Queensland Young IPWEA representative.
