Exciting new Benchmarking Project on essential Fleet Performance Metrics

by Ken Goldberg, IPWEA Fleet Consultant

You may be aware that IPWEA Fleet is presently conducting its first ever FLEET BENCHMAKING PROJECT. The aim of the project is to provide IPWEA subscribers with benchmarking data on some of the most important key performance indicators as recommended by the IPWEA Plant and Vehicle Management Manual ed.4.

The target KPI for the initial benchmarking exercise is UTILISATION. The KPI selection was evidence-based – stemming from a survey of 42 participants at the annual Fleet Management Workshops in October and November last year. Participants were asked whether they were using or intended to use the recommended Fleet KPI’s. Utilisation came out as the clear winner with a whopping 93% indicating that they engaged in some form of utilisation analysis and nominated it as the top KPI.

IPWEA Fleet are now well into the project, having liaised with potential participants. There were currently 14 organisations that are taking part in the benchmarking exercise. Data requirements have been agreed and data is already being gathered by IPWEA Fleet from participating organisations.

Once the data collection phase is complete, IPWEA Fleet will be conducting an extensive analysis and will then be in a position to release the much-anticipated results. We’re hoping these will include details on average utilisation rates across a range of assets. So, watch this space to keep updated on this landmark initiative which we’re optimistic will provide some fascinating and eye-opening outcomes.
