Quiz the regulator

IPWEA is offering November workshop attendees the chance to put their questions to representatives of the road regulators at its Plant and Vehicle Management Workshops.

Representatives from RMS have spoken at previous IPWEA workshops and proved popular with attendees who appreciate the chance to have a face-to-face dialogue with the regulator.

“It is extremely useful to ask the regulator questions as they can give you a better understanding of the issues,” says Dubbo City Council Manager of Fleet Management Services, Steven Colliver, who oversees the session. “Quite often there is ambiguity in the answers you get.”

Regulators often interpret issues from a theoretical point of view, as opposed to a practical point of view, according to Colliver, who hopes the session helps overcome the common ‘them and us’ mindset held in the industry.

Attendees are invited to submit their questions via email in advance of the workshop so these can be forwarded onto the regulator to prepare answers.

“The regulator gets a good understanding of the where we are coming from,” says Colliver. “They cannot bend the rules, but can understand our frustrations.”

Ask the regulator is just one component of the one-day workshop that is designed to teach plant and vehicle best practice.

XDrive Head Trainer Stephen Haughey will also hold a session on safer driving during the workshop.

The workshop is aimed at anyone working with plant or fleet within their organisation, including construction workers.

Nine workshops will be held in total, starting in Casino, NSW on 10 November 2014.
