Work will soon commence on the IPWEA Fleet Maintenance Safe Practice Guide.

Compliance with Health and Safety obligations is a complex and challenging area for fleet managers. At its recent meeting the IPWEA Systems Plus Panel identified the need for guidance in meeting health and safety obligations for fleet maintenance operations.  It was considered that an industry based Fleet Maintenance Safe Practice Guide would provide benefits in terms of efficiency and in demonstrating best practice.

The objective of the Guide is to provide a nationally applicable resource to assist fleet managers meet the requirement for safe work practices in fleet maintenance and workshop operations. In the first instance the Guide would focus on workshop operations (routine or generic workshop activities).

The requirement for employers to provide a safe workplace is inherent in national and state health and safety legislation. In a fleet context, the Fleet Manager, Workshop Supervisor and workshop staff all have responsibilities for legislative compliance.
