Ask anyone in public works how they ended up in the profession and more often than not the answer is “I kind of fell into it”.

To rectify this problem, IPWEA has launched its new Careers Blog with all the information young engineers need to find out about the profession.

IPWEA's Careers Blog is supported by the Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government.

Whether you are new to the industry or a seasoned professional, here's who we think should check out the blog:

HSC students

You’ve always thought your niece/neighbour’s child/son [delete as applicable] would enjoy a career in public works, but your attempts to sell the idea of building sewers and roads has gone down like a lead balloon. Why not point your ward towards our page where they can find out about what it really means to be a public works engineer.

Engineering students

It’s inevitable. At some point, your world of clubbing, library cramming and clubbing will come to an end. But what career path do you want to go down? Is it important to you to leave a legacy behind? Help the community? Could specialising in public works be the route for you? Our blog can help you find out.

Engineering graduates

Whether you have just graduated or been in the workforce for a few years, IPWEA’s Careers blog is a great place to find out about others like you. How have other graduates progressed in their career? How can you get involved in Young IPWEA and what are the benefits of its networking events? Find out here.

Consultancy firms/Councils

Want to know who the young players in the market are? Want some insight into the challenges faced by young professionals in public works engineering? Or you simply want to point your employees towards a key resource that could give them insights into how they can make public works a lifelong profession.
