IPWEA has introduced a free NAMS.PLUS trial limited subscription for individuals enrolling on the IPWEA Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning – so participants can seek to gain the qualification where their organisation is not a NAMS.PLUS subscriber.
The NAMS.PLUS subscription offer is on a time limited basis (approx. four months) for the duration of the course only. Many functions of NAMS.PLUS have been disabled, but sufficient access is available to complete the course.
Candidates are required to take reasonable steps to ensure that NAMS.PLUS resources are not used beyond their personal purpose of completing the course.
The IPWEA Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning is a short course spanning eight online ‘live’ training sessions over 11 weeks.
Each ‘live’ session covers the eight different aspects of asset management planning from the basics through to the building of a plan.
During the sessions, participants have access to a ‘chat’ facility, which allows them to pose questions to the trainer online and contribute to the discussion during the course.
“Having access to the chat facility during each live event was excellent,” said course participant Gary Arnold, General Manager at Kingsborough Council. “The ability to ask questions and have them answered and discussed enhanced the learning experience.”

The course covers the same information that historically has been covered by the NAMS.PLUS face-to-face workshops. However, participants have the opportunity to work on their data and tasks between sessions to complete the course exercises.
It is aimed at anyone managing public infrastructure assets, but anyone with an interest in infrastructure asset management will find the course of value.
City of Charles Sturt Asset Information Officer Alyssa Todd completed the first course earlier this year. In her role, she provides the data and analysis for asset management plans, but does not typically write them.
“I found this course very useful to understand what the Asset Officers are talking about with their plans and how I can best assist them in the future,” she said.
“I was given the opportunity to create an AM plan that will actually be used by our council and I’m really pleased with how much I’ve learnt and how much more I can contribute to my council now that I’ve completed the course.”
Participants are awarded an IPWEA Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning upon successful completion of the course.
The next AM Online Course starts on 16 September.
