Victorian company On-Site Civil Solutions walked away with this year’s Australian Mobile & App design Award for In Field Services for its CivilWorks app.
The CivilWorks app allows on-site civil works engineers to complete mathematical calculations, for projects such as drainage, water

sewers, roads and subdivisional works, and email the calculations to project managers off site.
Users can also use their camera phones to record the condition and position of build assets.
On-Site Civil Solutions Director Shane Dodd developed the app with his team following firsthand experience of the unsafe work conditions and expense of rework due to on-site calculation errors.
“We’ve experienced the costly problems and delays that can occur during civil construction projects due to simple, preventable errors,” said Dodd.
“We were compelled to create a mobile technology to eliminate these problems within our industry, as well as improve project delivery times and save money for contractors.”
Dodd worked at the City of Ballarat for 14 years in a number of roles, including Land Development Supervisor, Construction Supervisor, Clerk of works and Civil Construction Team Leader.
The first CivilWorks app, which is available from the AppStore and Google Play store, was launched in November 2013 and has been downloaded within Australia, Canada, UK, New Zealand and beyond. The most recent upgrade has been available for two months.
