Smart Community Infrastructure: Your expertise is needed

advice needed

Australia, via RMIT University, is currently represented on an ISO Working Group (WG6) entitled Disaster Risk Reduction. This working group sits within Technical Committee 268: Sustainable Cities and Communities, Subcommittee 1: Smart Community Infrastructures. This Working Group needs your help in identifying examples of disaster resilient smart infrastructure across Australia.

The goal of WG6 is to identify examples of disaster resilient smart infrastructure, for example, smart infrastructure systems that are resilient to disasters and which then increase the disaster resilience of communities. Examples of disaster resilient smart infrastructure from other countries include: high speed rail lines connected to seismometers; installations of large capacity batteries that can move trains in the event of a disaster/power outage; smart grids; wind turbine systems installed to reduce damage from cyclones; information systems that can transmit large amounts of data across organisations; and smart coastal tsunami and flooding defences.

Each member of WG6 has been asked to provide at least 10 examples of disaster resilient smart infrastructure systems (existing or in development) in their respective country, which help to reduce disaster impacts. Of particular interest are systems that reduce the impact of bushfires in Australia. If you are able to assist, please fill out this survey via Google Forms here.

Please complete the survey providing details of the infrastructure system, developer/operator, location, hazard type, e.g., cyclone or bushfire, infrastructure type, disaster phase, issues addressed by the infrastructure, target results, outcomes to date, etc.

The deadline for responses is 19th February 2021. If you would prefer to discuss directly with the Australian representative on WG6, please contact:

Thank you very much for your help with this effort! And, thank you to those who have already provided input via the survey spreadsheet.
