Professional Certificate has immediate rewards for employers and participants

IPWEA’s Professional Certificate in Asset Management Planning is quickly becoming the global standard for developing sound asset management plans.

Part of the reason is that the course content is not based on theoretical discussion and lectures.

Instead, students draft real asset management plans using their employers’ real data, while their work is overseen by experienced mentors like Allen Mapstone and Steve Verity, both employees of IPWEA.

“The students’ creation of a valid workplace resource is what sets the Professional Certificate apart, by giving it immediate and practical value to the student and their employer,” said Verity.

Across the training program’s seven modules, the learning tools used are videos, live Q&As, discussion forums and homework. Students are mentored throughout the nine-week course by experienced professionals who pass on their significant knowledge from the field.

“Access to experts is another way the course provides a distinct edge in this niche training field, but the flexibility of self-paced learning with responsive feedback provided is welcomed by busy participants who fit their study around work and other commitments,” said Verity.

Finn Macleod, a construction and maintenance engineer at The City of Swan in Western Australia, earned his certificate in November last year and was soon rewarded as a result of his new qualification. In Macleod’s February 2019 feedback about the course, he said:

“It has definitely helped my career. I recently applied for a secondment up to the Shire of East Pilbara, and they made a specific comment about my asset management background and training that I’d done being the reason they want me. It’s already made a massive difference; they selected me because of that.”

Team enrolments

The course content’s core message about asset management is a cultural one that stresses the need for collaboration and input across organisational silos. Group enrolments in the Professional Certificate are now a common way of distributing skills and a shared outlook about asset management throughout a team, in a short space of time.
