IPWEA FLEET Joins the Charge Together Fleets Program
It’s not a matter of if! Electric Vehicles (EVs) are part of the here and now. JP Morgan forecasts that EVs and Hybrid EVs (HEVs) will account for 30% of all vehicle sales by 2025.
According to IEA (International Energy Agency) several countries have set targets to ban sales or registration of vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICEs). Sweden and Sri Lanka are aiming for fleets without ICEs by 2045 and 2040 respectively. Norway has announced an ICE sales ban by 2025 with Ireland, Netherlands and Slovenia following in 2030. Further, some city administrations have committed to access restrictions for internal combustion engines such as Paris and Rome’s diesel access restrictions from 2024 and Fossil-Fuel-Free Streets Declarations by a range of other cities by 2030.
Vehicle manufacturers are also buying into the EV industry with most if not all of the major manufacturers offering or developing EV offerings. A number of manufacturers such as Fiat Chrysler, Honda, Subaru and Toyota have announced or are already implementing the cessation of the production or development of diesel power trains. (reference IEA Global EV Outlook 2018).
At a local level we have certainly seen an increase in interest among our fleet community with various organisations either committing to or implementing both passenger car EVs and heavy duty EVs such as waste compactors.
The shift to EVs will continue to grow. To assist our fleet community understand and make the transition to EVs, IPWEA has joined the Charge Together Fleets program, a cooperative designed to assist fleet and sustainability managers transition to electric vehicles and future mobility models. To achieve this Charge Together Fleets will offer an online tools and resource platform, informative webinars, networking and collaborative procurement arrangements. IPWEA will be actively involved in the Charge Together Fleet’s Core Working Group to share our experience and knowledge in fleet management and to represent our fleet community’s needs in transitioning to EVs.
I encourage you to subscribe to the Charge Together Fleets program now (at no cost) to be notified of upcoming webinars, network with peers, follow developments in the national procurement initiative and to get access to the EV resource platform when it launches.
