Nominations are open for the annual National Awards for Local Government, which recognise innovative local government projects.

Minister for Local Government and Territories Fiona Nash says these awards recognise projects that provide new or improved local government services to regional and rural communities.

“Through these awards, the Government celebrates the ‘best of the best’ local government projects which range from infrastructure, regional growth and art projects,” Nash says.

The national winner of the 2016 Awards was Mackay Regional Council in Queensland for their Transforming a Water Business project.

“I encourage all local governments to submit projects that are similarly designed that contribute to building stronger and vibrant communities," Nash says.

Nominations close on Friday, 3 March.

Category winners will be announced in mid-April 2017 and the national winner will be announced at the Australian Local Government Association National General Assembly dinner in June 2017.

More information about the awards, and how to submit an entry, is available at: www.infrastructure.gov.au/nalg
