CEO's column: Make the most of the Christmas break

At this time of the year everyone is focused on finishing off work; trying to get as much off their plate as they can; and then there’s the end of year catching-up with all those we have not had the chance to do so during the year.

Add to this the frenzy of Christmas gift shopping, holiday planning and getting the house/garden/unit spruced up for the holiday break, and all in all, it is a hectic and tiring and even exhausting time.

So often, you’ll read Christmas messages extolling how well the organisation has done during the year. Yes, I’m very proud of what our IPWEA Australasia team has achieved this year and there are many more exciting things ahead for us in 2017. However, my Christmas message is much more personal.

I would simply ask you to take the time during this festive season to spend it with your family and friends and soak up the bonhomie. Relax and recharge both body and mind. Let work matters sit in the background – they will still be there when your return next year. Christmas can be a time when not everyone has someone to share it with, so if you know someone in this situation, reach out to them. Even a phone call on Christmas Day from friends or family can cheer up someone who may be by themselves.

Valuing relationships and sharing good times with family and friends are what really matters at Christmas, not the presents or over-indulgence. Make sure you cherish this time and channel your inner child. We are fortunate to live in one of the best countries on the earth, blessed with radiant Aussie summers during the Christmas holiday season. Make the most of it and whatever you do, do it safely and enjoy your festive season.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.
