Mercedes Benz has presented its e-Truck as the first fully electric truck with a capacity of 26 tonnes.
The motivation is to provide an urban delivery truck with zero exhaust emissions and low noise impact. It is reported that the e-Truck will possibly be available early next decade.
The development of electric trucks is part of Daimler Trucks strategy to build technological leadership and they will direct considerable resources to electric drives into the future.
The drivetrain of the e-Truck relies on a new electrically driven rear axle with electric motors mounted adjacent to the wheel hubs. The battery pack includes three lithium-ion battery modules with a range of up to 200 km.
