The first speakers have been confirmed for the 3rd International Street Lighting and Smart Controls Conference.

This ground-breaking street lighting conference will be held 15 - 17 March 2017 Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Brisbane. Visit the conference website now.

The conference is the third in a series, building on Strategic Lighting Partners’ (SLP) highly successful, award-winning Road Lighting conferences held in New Zealand in 2014 and 2015. Registrations open later this month.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Rune Elvik, from the Norwegian Institute of Transport Economics, editor of the industry acclaimed first and second editions of The Handbook on Road Safety Measures and also one of several co-authors to the Norwegian 2016 edition. His presentation will identify the strong international economic and safety research evidence for road lighting, and suggest that the recognition still remains lower than that research deserves.
  • Scotty Hutto of Georgia Power – a large US investor-owned electricity utility company that has similarities to Australian electricity distributors, and is leading the world’s largest installation of 600,000 LED road lights with smart control systems.
  • Ed Ebrahimian, the Director of the Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting, will speak on Los Angeles’ trip towards a smart city after leading the world in LED road lighting – and always with strong support from the two mayors over that period.

And, many more exciting international speakers are soon to be announced.

About the conference

Australia and New Zealand lag well behind the rest of the developed world in roll-out of LEDs for street lighting: only 10-11% of street lights have been changed over. This presents a massive market opportunity for rapid uptake of both LED luminaires and smart controls enabled deployments across Australia and New Zealand.

The conference programme is designed to assist road controlling authorities and the private sector in planning a transition to smart control enabled LED lighting through long-term infrastructure strategies. It provides guidance on procurement and implementation for the best, future-proofed results, as well as the latest information on the health and safety benefits of adopting LEDs.

The conference will give delegates the opportunity to learn first-hand from the experts who are managing the world’s largest LED retrofits, meet the people who could help them design, construct and finance the project, and manage and underwrite the risk. There will also be excellent opportunities to network with lighting engineers and project managers who are introducing the new technologies to New Zealand and Australia.

About the SLSC Programme

LED lighting uses half the electricity of high-pressure sodium lighting, reduces maintenance costs by more than 50%, allows for easier and more precise lighting control, and helps create safer conditions for road users. It establishes the DNA of the flexible electronic network required to help us make the transformation to smart cities. The SLSC Programme is backed by the Australian Government Department of Energy and Environment and the Commonwealth, State and Territory and New Zealand Equipment, Energy Efficiency Program. The SLSC Council consists of Government, peak industry organisations and the major industry leaders. The TAG (Technical Advisory Group) has over 30 specialist organisations as members.

Join us in Australia’s world class city, Brisbane, 15-17 March at the 3rd International Street Lighting + Smart Controls Conference.
