A health pandemic, two natural disasters and the ongoing plight of Syrian refugees has made 2014/2015 a big year for humanitarian agency RedR Australia.

RedR Australia has released its Annual Report, in addition to its most recent RedLetter e-newsletter

Acting as a Standby Partner to the United Nations and other frontline relief agencies, the international emergency relief agency mobilises skilled people, including engineers, when humanitarian crises hit. RedR Australia also provides internationally recognised training courses to prepare aid workers.

RedR Australia was established in 1992 by engineer Jeff Dobell, who called on his peers to apply their skills to disaster relief. The IPWEA was one of four founding bodies of RedR Australia, and continues to provide both financial and practical support.

The Annual Report details the agency’s work over the period – and those involved have certainly been busy.

During 2014/2015, RedR Australia deployed 118 skilled people to 35 countries and trained 605 people.

People were sent to assist with the Ebola crises in West Africa, Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu and the earthquakes in Nepal.
