If you have ever wanted to sit down and discuss practical solutions to specific financial asset management problems with experts and peers, now is your chance.

A series of workshops to be held around Australia will offer asset management and financial practitioners the chance to receive practical advice to how to achieve financially sustainable services from infrastructure.

The one-day workshops will complement and cover key issues covered in IPWEA’s flagship publication, the Australian Infrastructure Financial Management Manual (AIFMM), which was launched at the Queensland and New South Wales Division Conferences in October.

Presenter John Comrie encourages participants to come prepared with financial asset management issues specific to their workplace, whether it be queries on the latest rulings of the Australian Accounting Standards Board regarding Fair Value valuation processes and recognition of Residual Value for Infrastructure Assets or questions on how to structure asset registers to meet accounting and asset management decision-making and information reporting needs.

“The workshop will give people an opportunity to explore the practical issues in their own workplace and discuss with colleagues from different councils,” Comrie says.

Having both financial and asset management staff from each workplace attend will give the best result, with the workshop content presentation aimed at covering key fully revised content of the AIFMM Comrie says.

“I’ll be aiming to demonstrate to participants that asset accounting requirements and sound integrated financial and asset management needn’t be complex or be as hard as some people think it is - the manual and the workshops will emphasise practical, simple solutions,” Comrie says.

The workshops will:
- Advise on the latest rulings of Australian Accounting Standards Board.
- Give guidance on the structuring of asset registers to concurrently meet accounting and asset management information reporting needs.
- Explore strategies to achieve financially sustainable services from infrastructure.
- Discuss key AIFMM 2015 content.
- Provide a platform for participants to receive practical advice on issues specific to financial asset management.

Kicking off on 11 November in Brisbane, the workshops will visit Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, before finishing in Perth on 18 November.
