IPWEA CEO Stepping Down

Michael Kahler, IPWEA President, has announced that Chris Champion, IPWEA Chief Executive Officer has advised the Board that he intends stepping down from the CEO position in July 2015 after 15 years of service leading the Institute.


Chris has provided early advice of his intention to complete his contract to allow the Board to recruit and ensure a smooth transition to a new Chief Executive Officer.


IPWEA has undergone significant growth and development under Chris’s leadership establishing IPWEA as a globally recognised brand in public works and infrastructure asset management. He oversaw the merger of New Zealand into IPWEA to become Australasia in our coverage.

Chris was President of the International Federation of Municipal Engineering from 2006-2009. In 2009, he was awarded the James Hill Prize from the Institution of Civil Engineers in London.

Emeritus Membership of IPWEA was bestowed on Chris in 2013 and he has been included eight times in the Engineers Australia annual list of Top 100 Most Influential Engineers in Australia.

The services of Chris won’t be completely lost to IPWEA. He will be taking up a part time role with IPWEA as Director International Relations leading a number of initiatives in this area, and will also consult privately. He takes up the appointment of Secretary-General of the International Federation of Municipal Engineering in the new year and has been re-appointed by the US Federal Highways to their Asset Management Expert Task Group.
