Australian National Engineering Taskforce Update

The first two ANET research projects reports can now be downloaded at www.anet.org.au

The work is divided into 3 reports and a joint executive summary. ANET is currently awaiting a decision from Government on plans for workshops on the reports. Details will be advised as soon as possible. ANET partners will also be holding events to ensure thorough engagement with the work and to assist plans for appropriate responses at workplace, enterprise, industry/sectoral and governmental levels.

Key questions raised by the reports include:

  • Should engineers be more involved in all phases of project decision making? What would it take to make this a reality?
  • What needs to change in the workplace to ensure sustained improvement to the number of women engineers?
  • How might Governments and asset owners plan project pipelines to more effectively support engineering workforce development?
  • How can employers better incorporate skills development into project cost structures?
  • How can education institutions better assist students transitioning to University courses?
  • What needs to go into articulation agreements between VET and Higher Education sector organisations to make the process more effective?
  • How can employers, Governments and education providers best assist each other in the creation of more internships?
  • Generally, how can better work integrated learning experiences be created?
  • How can better industry and education sector collaboration models be fostered?

Apart from further work on these questions, ANET’s current agenda includes:

  • Supply, demand and workforce development research for power, water and local government
  • Identifying and developing models for mid career transitions between engineering specialisations/disciplines
  • Strategies to improve female participation
  • Strategies to improve participation of students from regional and remote areas
  • Assessment of migration issues

This work will be progressed through consolidating the information that has been generated by ANET partners, research and stakeholder engagement over the last 2 years and through specific research projects for which we will be seeking Government and industry support.

As always please send feedback to info@anet.org.au
