Sound planning and good communication are amongst the top considerations in mitigating risks in procurement for capital works delivery.  This key message was heard by close to 60 delegates who had travelled from all over Victoria to take part in today’s IPWEAvic Seminar centred around “Procurement for Capital Works Delivery”.

“State Government as inhibitor or enabler?” was the questions put to the delegates by the keynote speaker Mr Paul Roache, a Senior Project Manager at Local Government Victoria  

A warning to all to put your institutional controls in place such as procurement policy, audit committee, conflict of interest obligations, protected disclosure regime, offences and have self-protection measures in place to avert corruption risks was provided by Maddocks Partner Mr Mike Hayes

Relationships and communication reporting coupled together with good planning are key ingredients for successful procurement from a CEO’s point of view.    “Good procurement is needed as its all about no surprises” says Mr Warren Roberts, CEO Stonnington City Council.

Accurate documentation, good planning and communication when considering commercial and financial risk in procurement are the three take home messages from the Director Assets and City Services at Banyule City Council, Mr Geoff Glynn

Whitehorse City Council’s recent aquatic centre multi-million dollar project was critiqued by the Mr Phil Warner, General Manager Infrastructure, as a case study to show what makes successful projects whilst Mr Ian McLauchlan, Director Operations, Loddon Shire used a case study to show procurement issues and solutions in a small rural shire.
