ARRB Best Practice Guidelines - Nigel Powers, Australian Road Research Board

story-one-edit.png

Nigel presented on the ARRB Best Practice Guideline documents for bridge maintenance, sealed and unsealed roads and road materials.  The development of these guides was a Federal Government initiative, intended to complement existing Australian Standards and AustRoads documents. The purpose of the project was to build local government road network asset management and maintenance capability, with a focus on regional areas.  The guides have been developed to be practical, easy to use and tailored to local government.

The guides were released in April, and since then have been downloaded over 16,000 times across Australia and the world.  Currently they have been accessed by 70% of Tasmanian councils.

ARRB will be offering paid online workshops on each of the guides over the coming months, with content on each of the guides and live Q&A sessions.  Face to face training is also planned in the future, pending COVID-19 restrictions.  The guidelines are free, and available via the website or a specially developed ap: https://www.arrb.com.au/bestpracticeguides

For more information on the guidelines or training opportunities please contact Nigel Powers – National Infrastructure Strategist, nigel.powers@arrb.com.au, 0400 898 780.

Tasmanian Subdivision Guidelines

After a competitive tending process, JMG has been awarded the project of updating the Tasmanian Subdivision Guidelines.  Draft documents will be released to member councils over the coming months for comment.

Tasmanian Standard Drawings

The Tasmanian Standard Drawings were updated in May 2020 and are published on the LGAT website.  Thank you must go to Heath MacPherson and the team at Brighton Council for their hard work on these drawings.  Following their release, feedback was received on several drawings which are currently being updated.  Once these immediate changes have been finalised the drawings will be reissued on the LGAT website.

To ensure the Tasmanian Standard Drawings are regularly maintained, a protocol is being developed for users to provide feedback and recommendations for amendment.  A Reference Group has been established with representatives invited from all councils.  The Reference Group will meet online on a quarterly basis for the purpose of reviewing and proposed changes to the Standard Drawings.  At this stage it is intended that the drawings will be amended on a 6-monthly basis.

More information on this process will be available soon.  If you have any questions on the subdivision guidelines or standard drawings, please contact Dino De Paoli at Dino.DePaoli@mvc.tas.gov.au or Michael Edrich at LGAT at Michael.Edrich@lgat.tas.gov.au.
