Recent changes to vehicle fringe benefits tax coming into full effect has resulted in a considerable cost increase to the provision of light vehicle fleets.
This, coupled with the demand to deliver on efficiencies, is placing increasing pressure on fleet managers to be creative with their budgets.
In NSW, for example, the Fit For the Future blueprint emphasises the need for fleet managers to re-evaluate their existing asset management practices and come up with strategies to reduce overall fleet cost.
Sutherland Shire Council Fleet, Stores and Workshops Manager, Mark Mills will be hosting a session on how to achieve light vehicle fleet savings at the Parramatta leg of IPWEA’s Plant & Vehicle Management Workshop roadshow.
The interactive session will give fleet managers the chance to share their experience and knowledge on how to make savings in LV fleet management.
“Fleet managers are under increased pressure to deliver on LV efficiencies and cost savings requiring new strategies and ideas to be developed, tested and implemented on an ongoing basis,” said Mills. “These new strategies depart from some of the standard management practices.”
According to Mills, historically fleet managers may not have actively pursued further discounting opportunities with manufacturers and often do not consider bulk purchasing.
“Instead of tending to purchase small numbers of cars as they reach end of life throughout the year, you might buy 15 at one time and aggregate your purchasing power.”
IPWEA has invited a guest speaker to each of its one-day Plant & Vehicle Management Workshops. Details will be posted online in due course.
Attendees of the Parramatta session are also invited to stay on for a post-workshop social event.
