National Assessment Framework begins testing

By ASSET e-news posted 11-09-2012 14:06

Two councils in each state and the Northern Territory have been co-opted by the IPWEA and ACELG to do a pilot trial on the National Assessments Framework (NAF) Portal.

Assessments have been completed by several of the councils and the feedback was positive overall, with only minor issues needing refinement.

The trial will continue over September. The NAF is still slated for general release to all Australian councils in October.

“Individual council information will be confidential,” the IPWEA’s National Director Infrastructure Management Leon Patterson said.

“Councils will be able to see their asset and financial management achievements with reference to the council average within their own Australian Local Government classification. They will also be able to refer to the average in their Regional Development Australia area and a state average.

“However there will be no ranking function in the NAF.”

The NAF is a structured, online tool based on the Local Government Financial Sustainability Nationally Consistent Frameworks developed by the Local Government Planning Ministers’ Council. It is also consistent with the asset management principles in the IPWEA’s International Infrastructure Management Manual (IIMM).
