President's Message 

Our annual Engineering Excellence Awards provide an opportunity for us to recognise innovation, design, development, construction and management in Public Works and this year – for the first time – our winners become eligible for an Australasian award!

The Award categories include:

  • Capital Project Award
  • Asset Management Award
  • Innovative Practice and/or Service Delivery Award
  • Public Works Practitioner of the Year Awards*

*The Young Engineer/Technician of the Year will be awarded a scholarship to attend the IPWEA Conference in Perth during August 2017 by the Municipal Engineering Foundation of Victoria!

Participation in the awards has proven to have great benefits for the staff and Council involved and generates great pride in achievement for all participants.

Conference Scholarships Available!

IPWEA (Vic) will be presenting its annual Conference in Melbourne on 30-31 March 2017 with a focus on end-to-end, best-practice public works delivery and professional development. The Conference program is available from

The Municipal Engineering Foundation of Victoria (MEFV) has generously provided twenty (20) scholarships for engineering students to attend the Conference and our IPWEA student members are encouraged to apply. Delegates will be able to attend all sessions and will be required to prepare a 1-page paper summarising their experience.

MEFV Study Tour

The Municipal Engineering Foundation Victoria is making an overseas study tour scholarship award available to selected engineers working within local government in Victoria to participate in a group focused tour during 2017.

The study tour is to the United States of America and Canada and is available to engineers to travel in a group tour of up to three weeks and to attend the APWA International Public Works Congress & Exhibition (PWX) in Orlando, Florida from 27th to 30th August 2017.  Each scholarship provides $10,000 to cover travel, accommodation and congress registration.

It’s been a busy start to the year for our YIPWEA committee with planning for some exciting upcoming events well under way. We have confirmed the date for our first big social event of the year – 23 February – so keep your diary clear and watch your Inbox for further details.

The YIPWEA committee is also working on a presentation at the upcoming Public Works Conference in March (details here) focused on what we as young engineers are looking for from our leaders.
