Footpath Works Agreement

Telstra is apparently approaching Councils to execute a Footpath Works Agreement that may remove a Council’s rights to national legislation governing Telstra notification and requirements and may also transfer the cost of repairing hazardous pits to Council.

Members presented with the document for consideration are urged to review it carefully and to seek advice from their insurer and/or legal counsel.

Regional Workshops

Over 200 people attended the Road Code Workshops we recently presented around Victoria and made the series a great success! Anyone wanting a copy of the new Code of Practice for the Management of Infrastructure in Road Reserves can download one here.

Our next series will address the establishment, compliance and decommissioning of landfill sites with a focus on hazard management. Dates and locations are yet to be confirmed, so keep an eye out for details in the New Year.

Young IPWEA (Vic) Chair Stuart Joyce recently joined the other YIPWEA Division chairs from around Australia and New Zealand in Coogee, NSW to discuss strategic objectives for the next 12 months. Some exciting ideas and opportunities have been discussed and will be implemented in the coming year.

The YIPWEA (Vic) Committee held its final social function for the year – a lawn bowls event at Richmond Union Bowling Club. It was a great night with pizza, beer and some exceptional (and some not so exceptional) bowling. We are currently planning a number of events for early in the new year, so keep an eye on the Victorian IPWEA website and LinkedIn pages. If you would like to be included on our email list, or have any ideas for events, please contact Stuart Joyce (

Have a safe and merry Christmas. We look forward to seeing all our YIPWEA members again in 2017!
