President's Message 

I’m pleased to advise that your Board has recently committed to broaden its skill base and increase its diversity.

Nomination for a position on the Board currently requires only financial membership of IPWEA however the future success of the organisation relies on Directors with skills in the areas of governance, strategy, risk and finance as well as a deep understanding of the work of its members.

The composition of the Board should also embrace gender, age, cultural, regional, professional and sector diversity to reflect the breadth of our membership and to ensure that a range of views inform its decision-making.

Ultimately, the composition of the Board depends upon you – our members – to nominate and elect representative Directors. We’ll be calling for Director nominations at the end of June so please consider the part you can play in the future of IPWEA (Vic).

Directorship provides the experience of working within a governance environment, professional networking opportunities and the chance to contribute to the development of the Public Works Engineering sector...I commend it to you!

Footy-tipping

The IPWEA (Vic) footy-tipping competition is up and running with 32 participants this year, but we don’t know who they all are!

If you’re part of the comp, please send your competition nickname to our organiser Ross Goyne via ross@rjgconsulting.com.au so we can identify you.

We’d hate to be unable to acknowledge a good effort or a win!

2017 Public Works Conference

Membership Renewal

Please note that membership renewal invoices will be issued in July this year to align the invoice date with the year-of-membership.

Let us know if this presents a problem for you.

Leadership Programs

Our 2017 Leadership Programs have commenced but there’s still time to take advantage of our 3-Session prices if you don’t have time for all six:

  • Engineering Program – $1,425 (members) & $1,650 (non-members)
  • Management Program – $1,980 (members) & $2,310 (non-members)

    Our 2015 and 2016 Program graduates are also encouraged to register for the new Session 6 which will be presented in September. Prices are as follows:

  • Engineering Program Session 6 – Community Engagement for Service Planning

    $395.00 (members) & $460.00 (non-members)

  • Management Program Session 6 – Change and Innovation towards 2050

YIPWEA news

One of our objectives is to create opportunities for informal interaction between our early-career and late-career members. A recent discussion with the IPWEA (Vic) Fellows Group Chair about an informal coaching program for YIPWEA members was very positive, so watch this space!

It’s our last CPD event before the National Works & Engineering Conference in August but we’re planning a series of Integrated Water Management Workshops later in the year...stay tuned!


AGM

Our 2017 AGM will be held at 4:00pm on 12 October, preceded by an Infrastructure Innovation seminar and followed by our annual Presentation Dinner.

National Works and Engineering Conference

The 24th NWEC will be presented in Bendigo on 31 August – 1 September 2017 and a terrific program of speakers and exhibitors is taking shape so save the dates!

The National Works Officers Association and the Conference organising Committee are also calling for applications for the NW&EC Institute-International Study Tour Award from practising Works Officers/Supervisors with three years minimum experience in a supervisory capacity. SENG Conference

The Sustainable Engineering Society (SENG) – a technical society of Engineers Australia – will be holding its biennial national conference in Melbourne on 18-19 October 2017.

The title of the conference is 'Engineering Sustainable Cities' and the venue will be the new Engineers Australia Innovation Hub, level 31, 600 Bourke Street, Melbourne. The conference will focus on urban and regional sustainability and be structured around two parallel streams with the following themes:

•   Sustainable Infrastructure for a net-zero GHG economy.

•   Resilience and community capacity building.

The organising committee is accepting registrations and calling for abstracts on or before 4 June. Further details on the conference program, and procedures for paper submission are available on the conference website.
