  • 1.  Road Safety Audit experience

I'm looking to become an accredited Road Safety Auditor. I did the IPWEA course, but unfortunately my employer doesn't carry out road safety audits internally.

I registered on the RSA website, but I need safety auditing experience in for to gain certification.

I'm wondering if there is anyone out there willing to add me to their RSA team so that I can get some experience? I've 25 years experience in highway design and construction, as well as traffic engineering.

Any help with this goal would be most appreciated.

    Good morning Darren,

I had a similar issue when I first became accredited as a road safety auditor. Our Council did not have any Senior Road Safety Auditors for me to perform audits under. Our local council has strong ties with the local Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) office. As they are a large state entity they tend to perform more audits and have more qualified senior auditors than our Council. I asked them if I could tag along to a few of their audits that they had scheduled and take part. This was beneficial to both them and I, as I received the audit experience and they had another set of eyes to perform the audit. The only cost to Council was my time to perform the audit and review it's findings.

I hope this helps. We used a local DTMR office however you could just as easily approach at local consultant who performs road safety audits in the area. In a road safety audit it is good to have a different set of eyes to look at an audit area, especially when its at no extra cost to the Senior Auditor.
