FLEET Manager's column: CoR an ongoing issue

During the week of 23 October 2017, Ross Moody and I had the pleasure of hosting the IPWEA Plant and Vehicle Management Workshop series in NSW and Brisbane.

The events were well attended and we had the opportunity to hear from experts on matters such as: Final Tier 4 Engines for off-road plant, Chain of Responsibility (CoR) compliance, Vehicle Electrical Specifications and much more. As always, the comments and knowledge sharing from those who attended was a highlight. The 2017 series continues in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth on the 14, 15 and 16 November respectively.

The Workshops highlighted that CoR compliance is an on-going challenge for fleet practitioners, especially given new inclusions related to vehicle standards and maintenance effective mid-2018. CoR applies to everyone in the supply chain from consigner to receiver and includes various roles within an organisation such as workers, managers and executives. To assist identify your role in CoR, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has provided a role selection section within its new CoR Gap Assessment Tool.

CoR is broad in its application and compliance requires a collaborative approach across an organisation, including executives. It is imperative that organisations address their CoR obligations holistically and as part of the organisation’s risk management and business assurance systems – not as a stand-alone task assigned to an individual.
