The Institute (IPWEA WA) are helping to close the Skills Gap in WA through a variety of training events, particularly through events such as the Public Works Professional Development Week and Mentoring Mix n Mingle events.
The Young IPWEA WA Committee have been busy promoting the Public Works Sector through regular attendance at O Days, presenting as part of the Girls in Engineering events at Curtin Uni and doing a range of hands on workshops at the It Takes a Spark STEM Conferences.
IPWEA WA have also been growing our presence through attendance at Career Expos and are developing a library of presentations and activities that we intend to eventually make available to members to promote the industry, we just need a few more to add to the collection first.
Our Roundtable Working Group has also been working hard in the last few years to develop a range of materials to assist the public works sector, and to that end have developed the brochure: Building the Future of Public Works which aims to connect prospective employers and employees, particularly Graduates. They have also, in conjunction with the City of Swan, developed a Graduate Program outline which outlines how to implement a successful Graduate Program within your organisation, as well as a Work Contract that can be amended to suit your particular needs.
Two of the most common questions we get asked regularly are: What exactly is public works? and then once we've explained it, Where can I find information on job placements?
