Uber’s capacity for innovation seemingly knows no bounds. Uber, Uber Pool, autonomous vehicle trials and now plans for 'flying cars'. They may not be as far away as you think – in this issue of FLEET intouch we explain why.

The fleet budget is seemingly always under pressure. Whether its rate capping, efficiency dividends, increased profits or any number of other drivers, as fleet managers we always need to be looking for opportunities to reduce expenditure and do more with less. For local government fleet managers in Western Australia, a new challenge is looming as the government moves to scrap concessions on registration for council fleets. We look at this in more detail and would be interested to hear from WA fleet practitioners as to how they’re dealing with the challenge.

In this issue we present an example of the good work that is being done in our fleet community. We’ve published an article by Griffith City Council looking at the effects of idle time. Managing idle time is relevant to anyone operating a plant and vehicle fleet. Thanks to Steve Croxon and Griffith City Council for letting us publish the story.

Arrangements for the IPWEA Australasian Fleet Conference are steaming along and we’re pleased to announce Timothy Fitzgerald, Director Fleet at DC Water and Sewerage, as our international keynote speaker. Timothy will present a practical case study on using data to make informed decisions. Registrations are open – so lock in your place now!

I hope you find this edition of FLEET intouch interesting and informative – why not share your feedback and comments with your mates! By the way – don’t forget to put forward your nomination for the IPWEA Fleet Achievement Award sponsored by Repco.
