Over the last 5 years GFG Consulting (GFG) has undertaken reviews to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the works / operations service’s areas for several Local Government Authorities. GFG has an ‘operational excellence’ approach which looks at process efficiency, staff and management behaviours and management systems.
Among the issues identified during the reviews, two show up consistently, these being a lack of effective work forecasting and planning, and little evidence of consistent management of the performance of the work.
To support the implementation of the recommendations of the reviews GFG has developed and implemented an Active Work Management Program structured to meet the needs of Works / Operations Services.
The implementation of an Active Work Management Program focuses on activities and behaviours that people in ‘supervisory and management’ roles should use when planning and managing the work of their teams.
When applied in the operations workplace, Active Work Management is expected to result in all resources being maximised and coordinated.
This session will discuss the review process and lessons learned, introduce the key concepts of Active Work Management, and the benefits that can be gained from implementing this program.
