Land Development Engineers Forum 2020

2020 LDEG Forum - 19-20 March, Palmerston North

Land Development - A provincial story

Message from the LDEG Chair - Tony McGlynn
As we turn our focus to the provinces, what better place to bring you than Palmerston North- a city forecast to experience major growth over the next decade.

From the new shared path from Palmerston North City to Linton Army Camp which covers over 7 kms of off-road path incorporating 5 bridges including the showpiece He Ara Kotahi bridge across the Manawatu River to the expanding industrial area highlighting the growth of Manawatu and Palmerston North City as a main land port. Other major projects include the new East-West highway to replace the now unusable Manawatu gorge road, expansion at Ohakea airbase and by Linton Army Camp and KiwiRail mean Palmy is set to be one of the busiest developing regions in New Zealand.

We have a great line-up of speakers presenting on very interesting topics and developments. We'll look at the journey of Palmy and the wider Manawatu and discuss what's coming next.

The discharge of wastewater into the Manawatu River requires a new consent which brings with it a massive challenge for the City. At the conference, we will hear from our experts working on the consent project.  Subdivision activity in the province has hit an all-time high, so we will look at some the subdivisions under construction.

New challenges for development engineers include increased requirements for stormwater treatment, urban design requirements, pressure sewer systems with policies and frameworks having to be hurried in to place to help guide and direct us.

Queenstown did a great job hosting the forum this year. I am so excited to welcome you to my home in March.

See you then.

Regards, Tony
