Course Overview

Asset management as a business discipline is relevant to all asset types, however the uniqueness and rapidly changing nature of the services and assets associated with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), means that there are differences in how these principles are best applied.

These sessions provide participants with an overview of strategic asset management as a business process. The presenter will explore in detail several asset management planning processes specifically as they relate to the management of ICT assets and services including devices, software and ICT ‘as a service’ arrangements.

Key Learnings

This course:

  • Introduces asset management as a business process, including IIMM and ISO 55000
  • Discusses the linkages between asset management and the organisation’s objectives, and Government’s expectations
  • Explores the relationships between the organisation’s the asset management strategy, the ICT asset management plan (AMP) and other existing ICT plans and strategies
  • Details key lifecycle processes including:
    • Defining levels of service and performance management
    • Forecasting and managing demand for ICT services
    • Managing asset registers and asset information
    • Planning for and reporting on asset performance
    • Identifying service-critical assets and systems
    • Financial management and investment
    • Developing the ICT asset management plan
    • Asset Management maturity and Improvement Planning
    • Embedding strategic asset management as a business as usual process

These 2 x 3hr sessions will provide valuable asset management skills to anyone involved in the planning, management and delivery of ICT services, in the public and sector, including ICT Managers, engineers and technicians; asset managers, business system owners, analysts, developers and delivery teams; database and help desk administrators, and ICT project managers.

Presenter - Steve Browning

Steve is an asset management specialist with nearly two decades experience managing infrastructure assets in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Canada. Steve has worked across the infrastructure spectrum and enjoys cross pollinating best practice from each sector to help asset owning organisations optimise their decision making and tell their investment story. Steve has worked as a Technical Specialist for Transport for London, Lead Advisor on PPP projects in Canada, and as the Technical Director for the Transport Research Laboratory in the UK. Steve is an energetic trainer with a contagious enthusiasm for this sector.  Steve is passionate about raising the profile of infrastructure asset management and is leading the IPWEA NZ Training Working Group to develop the next generation of asset management training.
