    Hi Everyone,

At the City of Marion, our Innovative Community Vision is  "By 2040 our city will be a leader in embracing and developing new ideas and technology to create a vibrant community with opportunities for all." We have defined Smart Principles and Smart Goals and aligned with this the City of Marion are progressively increasing their program to install Smart Cities and IoT hardware across the city.

    Assets currently include:
    - Pedestrian Monitors
    - Smart Water Fountains
    - Smart BBQ's
    - Heat Sensors
    - Playground Sensors
    - Car Park Sensors

Generally, as individual items these assets are low cost and are unlikely to meet Council's capitalisation threshold. However, as a grouped asset their collective asset value determines the necessity to recognise them Council's books.

I wanted to reach out to this network and identify if any peers had already delved into the world of asset management for this asset class.

    - Do you recognise Smart Cities / IoT infrastructure as an asset?
    - Have you included it in an Asset Management Plan yet, and if so which one?
    - How are you reporting this in your annual financial statement? In which financial class is it included for reporting?
    - Have you included renewal of this asset class in your LTFP?
    - Have you developed business process or workflows associated with the management and maintenance of these assets?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Regards,
