Looking for some information on synthetic grass usage, does anyone have experience with installation on medium strips, roundabouts, public areas?
Products, thickness used and longevity any information on previous experiences would be great

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Perry,
I have some experience of using synthetic grass in playgrounds and public malls but that was about 1990 so although it worked well and did the intended job, much has changed in the product and public concerns about out-gassing, micro-plastics etc.
I noticed last week that Goulburn City Council (NSW) has installed synthetic grass on the median strips of the main road through its shopping district, so it might be worth contacting someone there.

    G'day Perry

I am a quantity surveyor so i am replying from the costing and longevity side. It could well be that the artificial grass is more expensive than say squares of RC paving and grasses like Lomandra. If you want something pedestrian friendly around cross overs and the like the artificial grass is suitable but add $120/m2 over and above concrete.

I am not a fan because its an expensive solution that quickly looses its lustre. Artificial grass is hot to walk on. If does not handle cigarette butts and gum. Also, usually the grass is placed hard up against kerbs and gutters making the hardcore base it sits on hard to properly compact  against the kerbs and in time with water seeping in those edges become soft and will be damaged by vehicles.

So I am entirely conflicted on the matter, but I hope the comments above helps your search for information.
