  • 1.  Consultant required to conduct external NAF Asset Management Maturity Assessment

    Posted 03-08-2021 15:13

Each January the Asset Solutions Team at the City of Marion undertakes an Asset Management Maturity Assessment based on the NAF templates and framework located within the NAMSPLUS portal.

Our initial assessment in January 2017 was undertaken externally by a consultant, establishing a baseline from which we've measured our progress towards core asset management maturity and beyond. Since that time we have been measuring our performance by undertaking an annual Asset Management Maturity Assessment. This has driven our annual work plan, building capability in asset management across the organisation.

In February 2022 we are planning to undertake another external Asset Management Maturity Assessment to validate our previous internal assessments and confirm we are on the right track. Can anyone recommend a consultant to undertake this work - either face-to-face in Adelaide or virtually over Zoom?

The successful consultant will be provided with access to all our relevant templates and frameworks as we will need this to be used to continue with progress measurement. In addition we would expect an overarching summary of our progress since 2017 and the maturity of the organisation giving some sense of how the City of Marion generally compares to other LGA's within the state and nationally. This may also include some general comparisons and comments on maturity to other key asset intensive sectors.

We're also interested in sharing our learnings with other organisations using the NAF Asset Management Maturity Assessment - so please get in touch if you've recently undertaken (or are about to undertake) one.

    Dear Catrin

    I liked your AM journey.
Not sure whether you have used Technology One, it was Jeff Roorda Associates before.
I would say they are the pioneer developing IIMM and NAMSPLUS.
Morrison Low is also another good one that you can try.
    Thanks and Kindest Regards
    Rabiul

    Hi Catrin,

Scott Newman who did your AMIS Review in 2017 may be able to assist you here? I haven't had the opportunity to work with him yet myself, outside of some correspondence with regards to Maintenance Management Plans.

    His email is newmanconsulting@adam.com.au

    Cheers

    M.

    Hi Catrin

This is a great approach to understanding your asset management maturity and removing any bias from internal opinions coming through.

I haven't engaged a consultant to undertake the assessment in the past, but we regularly undertake an assessment to help us develop our Strategic Asset Management Action Plan. In the past, the assessment has been undertaken by one or two staff members, but this year (2021) we actually extended the assessment to numerous staff across asset management, finance, IT, corporate strategy and the results collated to get a better indication on how we fare in the assessment. I would be happy to hear more about your learnings and share our knowledge. Please reach out to me - megan.finnie@northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au

    Hi Megan, Catrin & others

Prior to my retirement as Director Technical Services at Dubbo Regional Council at the end of 2016 I had led an Asset Management Maturity Improvement Project at that Council over the previous 5 years.

I'm not sure if you are aware that about 10 years ago the Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government (ACELG) developed and published a document titled the National Asset Management Assessment Framework (NAMAF). This Framework is an excellent resource for measuring and assessing the level of your asset management maturity. Whilst it can be implemented in-house, at Dubbo we chose to employ consultants to assist us through that process.

in June 2015 the consultant and myself presented a paper at the International IPWEA Conference in Rotorua giving significant detail on how this project unfolded. I attach hereby a link to that paper which I hope may be of some assistance to others.

    Hi Catrin,

    Great post and discussion.

Keen to hear the learnings from others using the Maturity Assessment toolkit in NAMS+.

Subscribers would be aware there are now four maturity models to choose from including ISO 55000, IIMM, NAF and the Canadian FCM.

Consultants can also use NAMS+ under the Consultant Agreement – copy attached.

    Keep up the good work.
