    Dear Young IPWEA Members

IPWEA NSW is taking part in the 2014  Careers Compass Event, promoting Public Works Engineering to secondary students as a worthy career choice.

I am seeking some young volunteers to assist on the day. The office has assembled promotional material including videos however it would be extremely beneficial to have young engineers talking about their personal experences.

The two events are as follows

    BANKSTOWN CAREER COMPASS
    Thursday 8th May
    10:00 am - 2:30 pm
    Bankstown Paceway
    176-178 Eldridge Rd
    Bankstown NSW 2200

    ST GEORGE CAREER COMPASS
    Thursday 15th May
    10:00 am - 2:30 pm
    Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre (Stadium)
Cnr. King Georges and Forest Rd
    Penshurst NSW 2222

If you can spare some time to assist in this important initiative please contact either myself or Elsi Pathmanathan on 02 8267 3008

    Thanking you

    John,

I wish I could but the tyranny of distance will prevent me; I'll stick my hand up for any down our way!

But can I implore the Sydney members jump on board and help out; I've been involved in a number of events that engage high school and early tertiary kids and it is well worth the time and effort to not only promote our industry, but also make some good acquaintances along the way.

    Cheers,

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share my thoughts and observations on the careers day at Bankstown Paceway.

Both myself and Elsie (IPWEA) thought I t was a fantastic day and I think the students were really interested in what the YIPWEA could do to possibly help with their careers and how it could be a good mechanism to connect them to other young engineers.

Just as some food for thought, a common expression from the students I spoke to was that if YIPWEA NSW had a Facebook page showing photos and short comments of what was happening in the industry then they would be more inclined to be involved.

Personally I feel I got a lot out of the experience; especially the panel interview session where I had to speak to a room full of students and answer some of their questions.

Hope to see you all at Civenex!

    Chris Wahbe.
