Hi everyone, We have been asked to provide information to Council relating to the introduction of parking meters in our main township as well as our main coastal township within the shire, so l was wondering if anyone has recently undertaken the process of introducing parking meters. The questions l have are as follows; - if anyone recently introduced parking meters into a regional town, how did you manage the process? - has anyone recently undertaken a feasibility study for the introduction of parking meters in rural/regional townships including coastal townships? - if so, did you do the feasibility study in-house or did you engage a consultant? - if you used an external consultant, what did the study cost? Look forward to any information people can provide, and thanking you in advance. ------------------------------------------- Paula Gardiner Manager Capital Works Colac-Otway Shire Council COLAC VIC -------------------------------------------

    Hi Paula

Byron Council is currently investigating installation of Parking Meters. I put your questions to our Traffic & Transport Planner who responded as follows:

The parking study is costing about $50,000 for consultant and data collection. In NSW, such a study is required to be completed as per the approval authority (RMS) guidelines:

    http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/doingbusinesswithus/downloads/technicalmanuals/payparkingv4.pdf

The RMS also dictate which 'parking meter' is permissible:

    Hope this helps.
