The Code of Practice for Spraying in Public Areas allows residents to ask the council to stop spraying in front of their residence / property. The clause goes onto say that the resident must supply the council with a pest management plan and if they don't follow it the council has the right to control the weeds by the use of chemical. I have had a look on the web and noticed that a lot of councils have "no spray lists" but when I have queried it they don't seem to have much in the way of policies to back it up. Some ask residents to ring every year others you just get put on the list. We have a no spray list but it has not been kept up to date. The last audit of the list I did showed that over 70% had been on the list for over 7 years and no one has checked that they are controlling weeds or if they still want to be on the list. Where the weeds are allowed to grow it can damaging the footpath over a period of time. I was interested what other councils do as far as maintaining "no spray lists" Thanks ------------------------------------------- Peter Kerstan Operations Manager Parks Hobart City Council HOBART TAS -------------------------------------------

    Hi Peter,
Sorry for the late reply, but didnt see this post come through.  Better late than never ay?  All NSW Council's should have a "no spray list" but they may not necassarly have anyone on it.  Our State Legislation requires us to develope and maintain a Pesticide Use Notification Plan.  A list of "no spray" is within the plan.  We havent had anyone ask to be on the plan since it started 3 years or so ago, and we dont actively ask people either.

I think its a case of Council resourcing in regards to being pro-active, which is pretty rare when we have many priorities.  I use my outlook calander to set annual audits and tasks, but getting to them is difficult.  Good luck.
