    Hi,

I'm wanting to find out what Road Safety Audit regimes other councils have in place for projects designed/constructed in-house. Also, do you use your own in-house road safety auditors to audit council road projects?

    Hi Darren,

We do in house Road Safety Audits for some Council projects. Generally these are for black spot projects as per the RMS TD.
Our Council Auditors are from other departments within Council. The majority of the time we have at least one Audit team member from an adjoining Council. We also are invited to participate in Road Safety Audits for the adjoining Councils.

We also condition Road Safety Audits to be carried out for particular development works. These are done by supposedly independant consultants. These audits are not just accepted but are reviewed & any recommendations as a result of deficences identified in the audit are to be resolved in consultation with Council.

    cheers

Hi Darren and Adam Normally Road Safety Audits are taken independently of the design teams and most councils, consultants, contractors approach specialist Road Safety Auditing Companies to undertake these tasks. This is in keeping with the Austroads Road safety Auditing Guidelines. ------------------------------------------- David Shrimpton Bulleen VIC -------------------------------------------

That's interesting, David. Certainly the safety audit team need to be independent of the design team. Its how independent that seems to be open to interpretation. In the UK we used to do RSAs for neighbouring councils, which provided a great professional development opportunity. reading the Austroads and RMS guidance on RSAs they do seem at odds with each other.

Some food for thought. Thanks for the responses guys!
