    Hello miguel,

Her we target 10 years for water meters of that size in domestic applications. There was an extensive study done by staff (five or more years back) where replaced meters were verified against a calibrated meter to determine the extent that they underbilled and based on those findings the 10 year timeframe was established as the cost effective point.
(Replacement cost involves not only the new meter but also the staff time to exchange them and adjustments to our records system.)
We also target some high usage domestic meters for earlier replacement and that's about where the cumulative reading gets beyond 5Meg. These are usually small businesses that have higher usage.
When we replace meters, we include a note in their next water bill that the meter has been replaced. This explains that old meters wear and read less than actually used and so the new bill might show an apparent higher usage than they previously had.

    Thanks Lance,
BSC have now decided to go for a 12 year rotation plan for the 20mm size meters and 10 years for all other sizes. The same will apply to high water users, that is unless we decide to cherry-pick-them, and this is a decision we are going to have to make soon. This follows recommendation from our preferred water meter supplier
