    Hi,

I'm just wondering what type of machinery everyone is using to maintain their sports fields and other open passive areas?
We are currently using a stealth but are experiencing some serious issues with uneven cuts and at times severe scalping issues particularly on the sporting fields.
Has anyone had any success or issues with the Toro 4100 / 5900 series Or the John Deer WAM's

Hi Jamie, we are currently using Stealths and aToro cylinder mower for our premier sports fields.
We have had similar issues with Stealths on our sports fields when we try to cut below 30mm once they get nearer to the end of their useful life.
We are currently investing in 2 Toro 4500 D ride on rotary mowers to replace one of our older Stealths and our cylinder mower as the cylinders are less versatile than the rotary dech 4500D.

Our Parks guys use a PEGASUS drawbar type mower (3 x 6ft roller mower decks). It is drawn by a 70HP A/C cabin tractor and the entire unit is road registered. We have used STEALTH & TORO/JD WAM's but have found that if the terrain is not perfect and clear of debris you will smash WAM decks quickly and the A/C cabin issues never stop. If the grass gets away as it does in certain times of the year, WAM's will burn deck belts and PTO's. The 1 tractor/Pegasus unit we have does the entire City for our climate and is by far the best we have used to date, it actually now does the work of 2 Stealth mowers! I note it only does the open areas of sporting fields and follow crews with TORO 7210's clean up. ------------------------------------------- Michael Borg Co-ordinator Fleet Services Rockhampton Regional Council ROCKHAMPTON QLD -------------------------------------------

    Jamie,

We're using a mix of plant dependingon size, profile and use of park / reserve (and team's run).

Sports Fields - we use John Deer 6230Tractor's with new Howard stealth decks - cutting no less than 30mm - satisfactorycut since plant is new,
alternativelywe use our contractors to cut our couch sports fields (typically cricketovals with turf pitches) and they use the Toro
                                 Groundmaster5910's at 20-25mm

Passive reserves & Parks - we usea mix of Tractors with stealth for large areas and Kubota or Toro 4wd ride-onmowers, depending on gradient, etc.
