Downloading your e-books

To download your e-books, you firstly need to create a free Adobe ID and Password (unless you have one already). Creating an Adobe ID enables you to view e-books protected by Adobe's digital rights management.

WARNING: You MUST follow these instructions very closely or you will have trouble installing your e-books

 

Step 1. Create an Adobe ID

To download your e-books, you firstly need to create a free Adobe ID and Password (unless you have one already). Creating an Adobe ID enables you to view e-books protected by Adobe's digital rights management.

  1. Create a free Adobe ID Account here. (If you already have an Adobe ID, be sure to use your existing Adobe ID, instead of registering for a new one.)
  2. Fill in the necessary fields and click Sign Up. Remember your Username (Email Address) and Password.

You have now created your Adobe ID account. Now you are right to go following the instructions below.


Step 2. Install Adobe Digital Editions software on your device

Download and install the free Adobe Digital Editions Software for your Windows or Macintosh computer:



Install

Download & install the recommended Adobe Digital Editions on your tablet (it will sync your e-books).

Download on the Apple App Store Android App on Google Play

Step 3. Download your e-book

Click on link sent to you to start downloading your .ascm file. This is a special file type that facilitates a secure download between our DRM system & your computer.

Step 4. Authorize your device

Open

Open the .ascm file you just downloaded with Adobe Digital Editions. When prompted to authorize your computer, enter your Adobe ID and password (NOTE: use Adobe ID as the e-book Vendor).

Open the .ascm file you just downloaded with the app you installed. When prompted to authorize your mobile device, enter your Adobe ID and Password (NOTE: use Adobe ID as the e-book Vendor).

Your e-book will instantly be delivered to your computer, so you can start reading immediately.


Troubleshooting

  1. Firstly, if you have problems installing, check your steps again using the above instructions
  2. Email IPWEA customer services admin@ipwea.org with the order details and any error messages generated, also at what stage of the download the message is appearing.

How do I transfer my e-book from my computer to my eReader (ipad or similar)

  1. Connect your eReader to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Check the eReader symbol is showing in the list on the left-hand side of your e-book Library.
  3. If it's not, check the USB cable is connected properly and the Reader is turned on.
  4. Left click the title of the ebook you want to transfer and drag it into your e-book Library and drop it onto the eReader symbol.
  5. Your eReader will see that an e-book has been added to the library and automatically transfer it.

Can I return an e-book?

No. e-books cannot be returned once they have been downloaded by a customer onto their PC or eReader.

Can I copy or forward an e-book to another computer?

Yes. You can transfer your e-book purchases onto up to 5 (authorised) machines using your personal Adobe ID and password.

Can I print off copies from an e-book that I have downloaded?

No, printing e-books is not permitted.

What is DRM?

DRM stands for "Digital Rights Management". This coding controls/limitations/restrictions that a publisher has placed against a particular title.

Can e-books in PDF format be read by a normal PDF reader?

The e-books supplied in pdf cannot be read by a normal pdf viewer. They are DRM'd and require Adobe Digital Editions or a compatible mobile device (or it's accompanying library software) to view them.

Can I download an e-book to my Kindle?

Kindle users are only able to view e-books sold on Amazon.com which has limitations for IPWEA as publishers. IPWEA uses Adobe’s DRM system and you will not be able to read our e-books on your Kindle.

What happens if I am unable to download my e-book?

Please ensure you have the current version of Adobe Digital Editions installed. Please email IPWEA customer services with the order details and any error messages generated, also at what stage of the download the message is appearing. Your query will then be passed on to our technical team and a response advised in due course. Email IPWEA Customer Service at admin@ipwea.org.

What happens if my firewall is preventing the download from taking place?

It may be that your machine is preventing the download from completing - sometimes this is caused by the firewall on your computer. If the computer belongs to a school/college or a business, would you please ask your IT to create an exception within the firewall for port 8080 and then attempt to download.
