Why is it that when operational staff get criticised for doing a poor job they see this as an opportunity to leverage Fleet for bigger and better plant and equipment?

Use the “ask why 5 times rule” and it will soon identify the real issue and more often than not it is an operational oversight and not a Fleet issue.

The purchase of an additional plant item will not fix poor operational procedures, it will just add to the cost of the service provision. So, be assertive and ensure that operational staff look within and can demonstrate that the issue is not an operational one before purchasing them additional plant and equipment.

If you fail to do this you will be arguing with them about meeting their costs moving forward and may have to sell some items to balance their books.
