Young IPWEA (YIPWEA) members are encouraged to submit their abstracts and secure their place at IPWEA’s 2019 International Public Works Conference (IPWC).

Set to be held 25-29 August, 2019 in Hobart, the next IPWC will see more than 120 papers delivered across three days, with five parallel streams and at least four keynote sessions.

YIPWEA Australasia Chair Nicola Daaboul said that, for the first time, a dedicated YIPWEA stream has been introduced to the conference program.

“This is the perfect opportunity to showcase your innovations to an international audience and supercharge your professional development,” Daaboul said.

“The YIPWEA Committee is working hard to make the 2019 conference a great, interactive and welcoming experience for young members. We can’t give away too much yet, but we’re excited about what’s ahead.”

Daaboul added that it wasn’t just up to young public works professionals to submit their abstracts  – managers also needed to make a commitment.

“Managers, it’s your responsibility to encourage and allow your young employees to attend the conference. As the biggest event on the public works calendar, IPWC 2019 is going to be invaluable, in terms of the content delivered and the connections made,” she said.

“Presenting a paper is a great way for your staff to gain confidence and build their professional profile. I encourage you invest in the leaders of tomorrow – why not even bring a team of staff along?”

With Tasmania playing host, YIPWEA Tasmania Chair Callum Pearce-Rasmussen also threw the challenge out to his state members.

“I’m hoping we’ll have a very strong contingent presenting papers at IPWC 2019,” Pearce-Rasmussen said.
