IPWEA Fleet is continually introducing new and improved resources to assist our Subscribers manage their fleets in the most efficient and effective way possible. We are excited to introduce a new and very important resource – the Maintenance Planning Tool (MPT).

Picture1.pngWe’ve all heard the truism junk in, junk out, or words to that effect. The challenge is that fleet data comes from a variety of sources and is sometimes recorded in a range of repositories – if at all. For some smaller organisations the idea of a full FMIS is unattainable. This means they’re left managing the fleet with paper based documents and records, spreadsheets and maybe a whiteboard. Unfortunately, this increases day to day pressures on fleet staff and carries risk in terms of data availability, good decision making and demonstrating due diligence.

To meet this challenge IPWEA has partnered with Connected Asset Management to provide a Maintenance Planning Tool (MPT) for IPWEA Fleet Subscribers with small fleets (fleets with less than 250 assets). The IPWEA MPT is not an FMIS but an electronic system that allows organisations to move to an electronic maintenance system and robust maintenance processes at an affordable cost. The MPT uses standardised IPWEA fleet classifications and maintenance codes to support quality data capture and recording and to help manage risk associated with fleet maintenance operations.

The MPT provides an asset register and enables the electronic generation of work requests, work orders, workshop scheduling, workshop management and reporting. The MPT uses leading-edge technology which eliminates redundant data fields, simplifies data input and presents the user with an easy to use, yet highly functional application. Real time access to maintenance and repair history, and asset register details, enables workshops to plan, direct and control service delivery. This results in maximum asset availability with minimal disruption to operational activities.

The IPWEA MPT can be accessed on portable devices in the office, workshop and field, simplifying real time collaboration with stakeholders. Access to the MPT is provided as an application subscription service, with access via desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile phones.

If you’re a smaller fleet using a paper-based system, spreadsheets, or a rudimentary database, switching to the IPWEA MPT will enable you to manage your fleet with modern tools, from anywhere and from any device. More information on the IPWEA MPT can be found here or contact robert.wilson@ipwea.org.
