AAPA - Polymer Modified Binders & Bitumen Emulsions - Roma, Q
When:
Mar 5, 2015 from 08:00 to 17:00 (AEST)
Associated with
Queensland
Duration:
1 Day
Level:
Intermediate
Course ID:
PMBQ5018
Benefits of the Course
This course covers the Polymer Modified Binders (PMBs) in the current Austroads Specification Framework for Polymer Modified Binders AGPT/T190, along with bitumen emulsions. It also provides guidance on the selection of PMBs and emulsions for different treatments and the benefits and risks of their use.
The various types of polymers and polymer grades are described, with guidance provided on practical construction aspects of using these binders, including risks associated with their use under a range of traffic and weather conditions.
Characteristics of bitumen emulsions are explained, including handling and storage requirements, breaking and curing characteristics, and correct application techniques to ensure satisfactory performance.
Scope
This course is designed to assist in the selection of appropriate surfacings for new pavements and existing roads where deficiencies may exist. The various types of road surfacings and pavement preservation techniques available are described and their benefits, limitations and
appropriate uses are discussed. Measures used to assess a road surfacing’s level of performance are also outlined.
This information is then applied to the selection methodology set out in the Austroads ‘Guide to the selection of road surfacings’ via a series of case studies undertaken in class.
Who should attend this course?
Engineers, technical officers, consultants and asset managers involved in the selection or specification of surfacing treatments.
