In Brief . . .
An essential course on safety for ALL personnel involved in storing, handling, working near or supervising the use of hot bituminous materials and asphalt, and considered to be of value to all people working in the industry, including office-based personnel.The course consists of formal
presentations, entertaining graphic demonstrations of potential hazards, discussion sessions and the selection and correct use of fire extinguishers.

Who should attend this course?
"Working Safely with Bitumen" is an essential safety course for all personnel. It is especially appropriate for:

  • All staff at depots
  • Bitumen workers
  • Contractors
  • Roadworkers involved in spray sealing & asphalt paving
  • Local authority and consulting engineering personnel
  • Those supervising sealing and asphalt paving. 

If you haven't been to this course for 2-3 years, perhaps it's time for a refresher!

The Program includes . . .

  • Hazard summary, health issues, bitumen properties, safe temperatures, additives, cutting, skin cleaning, chemical burns, water
    hazard, PPE, sampling, spray bar hazards, kerosine flammability
  • Hoses, bitumen burns, Hazchem placards, fires, extinguishers, emergency action
  • Safe work permits, dangerous goods, ADG code, flash point, ignition sources, static, burners, travel routes, parking, safe distances,site safety, auto-ignition
  • Incident examples, heater tubes, explosive limits, tank vents, emulsions/residues, spills, LPG hazards

Fees & Registration
Course fees are $680 for AAPA Members and $800 for non-Members (incl GST). Fees include lunch, morning and afternoon teas, course notes and other handouts and a personalised certificate of attendance. A Statement of Successful Completion of Written Assignment will be awarded on satisfactory completion of an optional written assignment. Please complete the on-line registration form and select your payment preference.
