Update on Standards Australia committee activity

IPWEA has a number of members sitting on various Standards Australia committees. Periodically, we will provide status updates on these committee activities for members’ information and to provide the opportunity for feedback by contacting the committee representative directly.

Standards Committee CE-001 has commenced reviews of AS2890.2 Off-Street Commercial Vehicle Facilities and AS2890.5 On-Street Parking.

The initial meeting reviewed the issues identified in the project proposal for the revision of the standards. Some of the considerations are:

AS2890.2 Off-Street Commercial Vehicle Facilities
Provisions for road trains, performance based vehicles, service bay layout, manoeuvring templates, ground clearance templates, driver interchange facilities, pedestrian safety and access in manoeuvring areas, driveway widths, mechanical technologies, and height clearance.

AS2890.5 On-Street Parking
Consistency with disabled parking standards, paid parking technology options, interactions of road users (cycling and parking in particular), consideration of the buffer zone and speeds, disable parking looking at ambulant and wheelchair drivers, whether there is any change in the 85th and 99th percentile vehicles, motorcycle parking and their inclusion in the design process.

The standards do not address policy positions, such as the number of service bays to be provided.

Feedback on issues or concerns can be forwarded to David Niven, Group Manager – City Projects at dniven@fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au.
